• Mervyn Singer is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at University College London, an emeritus UK National Institute of Health Research Senior Investigator, and the founding Editor-in-Chief of Intensive Care Medicine Experimental.
• He is current chair of the International Sepsis Forum.
• He co-chaired the ‘Sepsis-3’ international task force redefining sepsis; the subsequent paper (Singer et al, JAMA 2016) has had >2.5 million views and >2500 citations.
• He has a major research interest in sepsis with funding from the EU, Wellcome Trust and MRC, among others, ranging from basic mechanistic work (main focus on mitochondrial dysfunction), through translational studies (novel biomarkers, therapies), to clinical trials (e.g. was on steering committees for large academic- and industry-led multicentre RCTs such as LeoPARDS, ProMISe, RADICAL, CORT|CUS).
